A Longing to be Filled

For more years than you can remember you have felt as if something was missing in your life. You weren’t sure what it was but there was an ache deep inside you that felt empty.

Some have said that you don’t know what you’ve missed if you’ve never had it. That might be true in many situations but if it’s a parents love or nurturing that you are missing then it leaves a hole where that love should have been.

We are born with a need to be nurtured, protected and loved. It’s a God given desire, one that if neglected the child will grow up and search for it.

Often they will look to others, some will be fortunate to find it in a grandparent, an Aunt or Uncle. Others will try to fill the emptiness with various relationships, careers, drugs, making a family of their own or chasing empty dreams. Some may even give up all hope and attempt suicide.

Trouble is none of those things will fill the emptiness. Relationships often leave you feeling even emptier and more alone than before. Drugs may dull the pain but eventually the pain is felt so more drugs are needed until it becomes the vicious cycle of addiction.

There is only one thing in this world that can fill the loneliness and emptiness left inside you from years of neglect and abuse.

It’s a relationship with Jesus. He says that He came to give you life, abundant life! (John 10:10) He has adopted you as one of His children and you can cry out to Him saying “Abba Father” (Rom 8:15) He calls you by name and you are very precious in His sight. You are honored by God and He says to you “ I Love You! (Is 43:1-4)

Oh dear one, you no longer have to live a life of emptiness or neglect Jesus waits for you to come to Him so that He might give you life, life everlasting. He longs to fill you with Himself so that you will know joy and peace and abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Rom 15:13)

He says "Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS."For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." (Matt 11:28-30)

Will you come to the one who offers to carry your heavy burden? Will you lay it at His feet? Will you allow Him to gently and humbly lead you to a rest that this world knows nothing of?

He waits for you. He longs to fill the emptiness of your soul.
