I think that many of us have a hard time believing this truth. We have grown up being the last one picked for any team game. We have been told, either by words or actions that we were not wanted. We have been made to feel unlovable, inferior or worthless by our parents, peers or the world in general. So how can we possibly believe that God would choose us in the mess we are in?
How? By studying His word written to us.
In 1 Peter chapter one we are reminded that we “are chosen according to the foreknowledge of God.” (v1-2) But it gets better, once chosen we can have “grace AND peace to the fullest measure.” (v 2) We are chosen by the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit, meaning that we are set apart for a special purpose. According to verse 2 what is that special purpose? To obey Jesus and be sprinkled with His blood! Isn’t that awesome?
God chose you before the foundations of the world so that you could obey Jesus and be covered in His blood through the cross.
How are you doing with that special purpose? Are you obeying Jesus in all you do, say, or think? No? Then once again go to the cross and lay down your sins, that have been covered by His blood, in confession.
Oh Father I am humbled to even think you would choose me for anything. Thank you for sending Your Son to die for my sins. Help me to be obedient in all I do, say or think so that my life will be an example of the work the Spirit is doing in me. Amen.
