Standing Firm

We live in evil times. All around us we see sin glorified. The church is being infiltrated by a watered down version of truth. Our enemies seem to become more and more clever in deceiving the church by looking like light.

So how do we stand? How do we live in an age that seems to do everything they can to ignore God? How are we to respond?

Over the next few weeks I hope to share insights with you from 1 Peter on how we are to live in the midst of an evil society.

An Overview

Peter was one of the apostle of Jesus. He writes this letter to those who reside, as aliens, in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia. Most of these are in the country that we now call Turkey. He is writing this letter to Gentiles around A.D. 63 or 64.*

Peter wrote this book in order to encourage Christians who were suffering for Christ. He reminds them, and us, that although Christians might suffer in this life, we will not suffer for ever. This world is not our real home, heaven is our home. One day we will live with God in heaven and share God’s glory.

Peter also wants his readers to understand the  “true grace of God”. He wants every Christian to know what God has done for them. He wants them to learn more about God.

I love this book because it is very practical. When a person becomes a Christian his/her life changes. Peter tells us how to live a good Christian life.

Peter was with Jesus for about three years. He saw all that Jesus did. He heard all that Jesus said. Peter is writing to encourage Christians to live like Jesus.*

I pray that you will join me as we together learn how to Stand Firm. In the mean time why not read through 1 Peter several times.
