This morning I have spent much time before the Lord asking Him to reveal to me any attitudes that are unbecoming to the gospel of Christ. Yes, I know, it’s a scary question to ask God and it’s a question that He will answer if you truly desire to hear what He has to say.
God brought to mind Phil 1:27 “Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel.”
After reading the verse again I went back and started reading at verse 21 “For me to live is Christ and to die is gain” through chapter 2 verse 8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on the cross.
God’s word always get right to the heart of the matter. There is no beating around the bush. God’s love for us is so great that He wants us to see those areas in our lives that keep us from a deeper intimacy with Him. He wants us to see those areas that we do not see.
What is my attitude? Can I say that I do nothing out of selfishness, or empty conceit? In humility do I put others needs above my own?
Do I have the attitude of Christ? Have I allowed the Spirit to empty me of myself? Do I seek to be humble? Do I serve others? Or do I want to be served?
These are hard questions. There are questions that I need to ask myself daily. I need to walk in a manner that is worthy of my calling. I need to ask for the Spirit’s help for left to myself it’s impossible.
