When was the last time you just had fun? For some of you the answer is easy for it happens often. For those of us that tend to be more task oriented instead of people oriented the answer might be a bit harder. It will also be harder for those of us who tend to take life a little too seriously.
Being married to my husband has taught me to see the lighter side of things. When we were first married most of our arguments centered on him not being serious enough! Through the years I have learned the importance of taking the time to laugh – I mean really laugh. To share joyful times together.
But lately I have forgotten the importance of that. I have forgotten to leave time in my day or week to share a few minutes of laughter with someone. I mean really life is too serious, who has time to laugh? Who has time to sit with a friend, a child or your husband with the purpose of sharing joy in one another?
When our children were small it was so much easier to remember to laugh –they were just so funny at times. They were carefree. That is the difference, isn’t it? We grow up and life becomes complicated and serious.
But I wonder – what was Jesus like? He was single-minded in His purpose. He knew what His Father had called him to and was very serious about saving and setting free mankind. But do you think He ever laughed? Did Jesus and His followers ever just sit around the fire and rejoice in one another? I’d like to think so.
Did you know that the word joy is in the Bible over 170 times and rejoice is in their over 145 times? I didn’t do an in-depth study of them all but did read over many of them. Most often we are reminded that we are to have joy in the Lord and rejoice TOGETHER over what He has done in our lives. We are to encourage, and share our joy together.
So when I say when was the last time you just had fun, I mean when was the last time you raised the roof with a girlfriend over what God was doing in your life? When was the last time you celebrated with someone over what God was teaching you?
I could be wrong for I honestly haven’t really studied this, but I don’t think God intended us to be all work and no play. It’s time to laugh, to rejoice in what God has done in our lives. Let us celebrate together. I have forgotten this. It’s been awhile since I’ve had time to just sit with a sister and share in the joy of what God is doing in our lives. I think it’s time to find the time again.
Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you righteous ones ; And shout for joy, all you who are upright in heart. NASB Psalms 32:11
I think God has a great sense of humor and He loves for us to have fun. I think about how much I enjoy seeing my kids enjoying themselves and I think God feels that way with His children too!
ReplyDeleteHey Sharon. This post made me smile... actually the last time I laughed really hard was just this past week when I got a serious case of the giggles during my ladies bible study group... not the best time for a laugh attack, but it made everyone else laugh too. God brings us joy and I love those moments when it just bubbles over!
ReplyDeleteGod Bless you,
Cristine

ReplyDeleteGood thoughts today, Sharon. It's pretty pitiful when I have to be reminded to laugh! Ha! That's when you know you are taking life way too seriously!

ReplyDeletemy son is the one who taught me it is good to laugh. It does make you feel so much better. Whokey know how to do the little things that give me laughter. He will do it when he thinks I've been to serious for too long.
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way-serious and task oriented too. My husband has taught me that it's fun to laugh! I think back to when my girls were little and remember the smiles and laughs and the look on their faces when they were happy for no reason at all. God has been good to me. Kae
